When gingivitis is not treated promptly, it can lead to a more serious gum disease called periodontitis as well as other health problems. Dr. Davis prescribes periodontal therapy for these types of cases. Our hygienists perform periodontal therapy procedures such as scaling and root planing followed by periodontal maintenance. Sometimes there is too much build up on the tooth or teeth which prevents proper diagnosis of the health of the gums. For these instances, Dr. Davis will recommend the hygienist perform an intensive cleaning first. As with all patients, routine exams and cleanings are critical in the effort to achieve and maintain a healthy mouth.
